Academy Tigers 36 – 16 Trinity

ACADEMY Tigers 36 – 16 Trinity

The hosts started strong, and the ever-dangerous Mitch Beedle had crossed for a brace of tries in the opening quarter and laid the platform for the Castleford ascendancy.

Sean Coughlan went close in opening exchanges, and Tylor Sharpe was held up over the line. Camping out on the Trinity line, Beedle feigned left and then again right before stepping the defence and reaching out to score, while he was still held up in the air.

Opening the scoring he added the conversion, before minutes later a break from deep through Tylor Sharpe who raced clear of the Trinity would-be tacklers before a neat inside ball sent Beedle flying under the posts. The conversion gave the Tigers a 12-0 lead. Sonny Wall and Cory Jay Sharpe continued to cause problems for the Wakefield defence with Tylor Sharpe continually breaking from deep and asking questions.

On the half hour mark a kick for the corner from Wall caused problems for the back line and Alfie Lindsey pulled the ball from the sky before sending his winger Nathan Murrey in at the corner. Beedle added the touchline conversion.
A repeat set for the Trinity attack as the half time approached say them make yardage and broke down the right-hand side, and an inside ball saw them score under the posts. The conversion saw the sides go in at the break 18-6.

The Trinity go-forward came out of the blocks quick in the second half and looked to get back in the arm wrestle, gaining momentum off a repeat set and making inroads through the middle to score a converted try and narrow the score to only six-points. Castleford’s attack quickly found its pace again on their return up field, when an opportune kick from Wall wasn’t dealt with by the Trinity backline and Cory Jay Sharpe raced over to scoop up and ground the ball. Beedle added the conversion again and the pendulum swung firmly in favour of the home side.

Hard yards from William Garnder driving at the line putting the Trinity backline on their tryline, laying the platform for Zach McGowan to scoot over from acting half. Wall added the conversion and improved the lead further.
On the hour mark the visitors capitalized on a dropped ball from the Tigers attack and scored another try, but the home side finished strong with Cory Jay Sharpe working the ball centre from the left-hand side and Alfie Salmon’s neat pass to the barnstorming angled run of Max Grinhaff saw him break through and score with several tacklers still hanging on to him. Beedle added the conversion and claimed an 18-point haul, and sealed the Academy 36-16 win.
