GOLDING PENS CAS EXTENSION

Castleford Tigers are delighted to announce that Ashton Golding has signed a new two year contract extension with the club, a deal that will keep him at The OneBore Stadium until the end of the 2028 Super League season.

The Jamaican International joined the Tigers from Huddersfield Giants at the start of the year, and made a big impact during his maiden campaign in black and amber. A versatile and experienced player with 214 senior first team appearances under his belt to date, Ashton becomes the latest name to sign on the dotted line at Wheldon Road.

The 30 year old has become a firm fans favourite on the terraces, an enthusiastic character that offers so much both on and off the field, and Golding was happy and relieved to have finally committed his future to the club.

"There's a little bit of relief actually, just probably more relief than anything. I think having played at Cas now this year, it's good to get this over the line, and it kind of works for myself and for Castleford. So, yeah, just relief and happiness are the overriding emotions at the moment. You know, got to think a year ago I left Huddersfield with no contract, and to get another three years in Super League is a blessing, so I'm definitely not gonna take that for granted."

On working on new head coach Paul Rowley, Ashton continued: "I've been playing Super League nearly 13 years now, so I've played many games against him. I like the way he coaches. I like the style. I like the way that he brings the players under one, and it's like a real 'ride or die' kind of environment that he creates. It's the world's against that team that he coaches, so I don't mind that. His track record's proven that he brings the best out of players. So I'm excited to get to work and you know, get my fitness back. I'm working quite hard to get back on the fit side of things, and then yeah, just get to work under him. So yeah, I'm quite excited."

When questioned on his cult status impacting his decision to sign again with the Tigers, Golding added:  "I think when you take to the field and you can see it's 20 people deep in the stands every week full of just pure passion, you want to be a part of that! You want to kind of pay it back, and it makes you go that little bit further. So 100% the supporters were a massive kind of factor for me. But equally, I'm a supporter of the game as well, and finding a real nice home here at Castleford, I wanted to see how much of a home it could be."

Director of Rugby Chris Chester was pleased to have tied Golding down to another deal at The OneBore: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to re-sign Ashton Golding on a new two-year deal. Ashton brings a huge amount to the group, both on and off the field, and his experience, quality and attitude make him a valuable part of what we’re building. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to make a big impact over the next two years.”
