Castleford 10K: Everything You Need to Know on Race Day

Your complete guide to the inaugural OneBore Castleford 10K

The wait is almost over.

This Sunday, 20 September, more than 1,000 runners will take to the streets of Castleford for the inaugural OneBore Castleford 10K, starting and finishing at the home of Castleford Tigers, the OneBore Stadium.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, taking on your first 10K or simply looking forward to being part of Castleford's newest running event, here's everything you need to know ahead of race day.

Race Day

Date: Sunday 20 September 2026
Race start: 9:00am
Venue: OneBore Stadium, Wheldon Road, Castleford, WF10 2SD

More than 1,000 runners will line up for the first ever Castleford 10K, with the route taking runners around the town before bringing them back to the OneBore Stadium for the finish.

The 10K is a fully chipped and timed event and is authorised by England Athletics.

Race Number Collection

Runners are encouraged to collect their race number ahead of race day.

Friday 18 September

4:00pm – 8:00pm

Saturday 19 September

9:00am – 12:00pm
1926 Lounge, OneBore Stadium

If you are unable to collect your race number on either Friday or Saturday, you can collect it on race morning at the stadium.

Where possible, we recommend collecting your number in advance so you can arrive on Sunday ready to run.

Race Day Timings

From 8:30am

Refreshments available

The refreshment cabins at the OneBore Stadium will be open from around 8:30am, giving runners and spectators the chance to grab a tea, coffee or other refreshments before the race begins.

9:00am

The OneBore Castleford 10K starts

More than 1,000 runners will set off from the OneBore Stadium and take on the 10-kilometre route around Castleford.

From approximately 9:00am onwards

Runners complete the course

The first runners will begin returning to the stadium as they complete the 10K.

Post-race

Medal and T-shirt collection

Once you've completed the challenge, head to the Fan Zone to collect your Castleford 10K finisher medal and T-shirt.

Please allow plenty of time for your journey and remember that there will be disruption to some roads around the route while the event is taking place.

Parking

There is NO parking available for runners at the OneBore Stadium.

Please do not attempt to park at the stadium on race morning.

Alternative parking is available around Castleford town centre.

Wakefield Council currently offers up to two hours' free parking at selected off-street car parks, subject to the individual car park's restrictions. Runners should check the signs and parking conditions when they arrive.

Please note that the race and your time at the stadium may exceed the free parking period. Check the individual car park's signage and make sure you are parked legally for the duration of your visit.

Travelling by train or bus

Castleford bus and train station is approximately a 15–20 minute walk from the OneBore Stadium.

Public transport may therefore be a convenient option for runners and spectators, particularly given the limited parking around the stadium.

Toilets

Toilets will be available inside the OneBore Stadium.

Please allow enough time to use the facilities before making your way to the start area.

Bag Drop

A bag drop will be available for runners in the 1926 Lounge at the OneBore Stadium.

If you are using the bag drop, please allow plenty of time before the 9:00am start to leave your belongings and make your way to the start area.

Please avoid bringing valuables with you wherever possible.

Water Station

There will be a water station at approximately the 5km point of the route.

This gives runners the opportunity to take on water around the halfway point of the race.

Additional water will be available at the stadium following the race.

We recommend arriving well hydrated and considering your own hydration requirements before setting off.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be available at the OneBore Stadium from approximately 8:30am.

Whether you're running or supporting someone taking part, you can grab a tea, coffee or other refreshments before the race gets underway.

Refreshments will also be available throughout the event.

T-Shirt & Medal Collection

You've done the hard work. Now it's time to collect your rewards.

After completing the 10K, runners should head to the Fan Zone, where they can collect their:

Castleford 10K T-shirt

Make sure you stick around after your run and enjoy the atmosphere in the Fan Zone.

The Route

The Castleford 10K is a fully measured 10-kilometre course, starting and finishing at the OneBore Stadium.

The route takes runners around Castleford before bringing them back to the stadium for the finish.

A water station will be located at approximately 5km.

There will be event staff and marshals positioned around the course to help guide runners.

Important information for everyone

The race will result in temporary disruption and road restrictions around parts of the route.

Local businesses and residents affected by the route have been contacted ahead of the event to make them aware of the arrangements and potential disruption.

Please follow all instructions from event marshals and officials while taking part.

Coming to Support Someone?

You don't have to be running to be part of the Castleford 10K.

Friends, family and supporters are encouraged to come along and help create an atmosphere for the runners.

With more than 1,000 runners taking part, the OneBore Stadium and surrounding area will be buzzing from early on Sunday morning.
