Vaalepu Joins Castleford Tigers on Loan

Castleford Tigers are delighted to announce the signing of Lazarus Vaalepu on a loan deal from Super League side Leigh Leopards until the end of the 2026 season.

A powerful forward with NRL and international experience, Vaalepu will bring size, strength and plenty of punch to the Tigers pack as we head into the final stages of the season.

Born in Penrith, New South Wales, Vaalepu came through the Canberra Raiders' development system before a promising stint in the Queensland Cup saw him snapped up by Melbourne Storm. Vaalepu made his NRL debut in Round 20 of the 2024 season, going on to make a substitute appearance in that year's NRL Grand Final.

His performances also earned international recognition with Samoa, winning two Test caps during their test series tour of England.

Vaalepu joined Leigh Leopards midway through the 2026 season and has since made four appearances for Leigh, as well as spending a short spell on loan with Oldham, where he featured twice.

Now, the 27-year-old will make the move to The OneBore Stadium for the remainder of the season, adding further strength and experience to the Tigers' middle.

With his powerful running and physical style of play, Vaalepu will provide another valuable option in the Castleford pack as the Tigers aim to finish as high as possible on the Super League table.

Director of Rugby Chris Chester added: "Lazarus is a big body and someone that moves well. He will give us some much needed punch through the middle third of the field. Lazarus will come straight into the 21 man squad for our game against St Helens on Saturday."
