REPORT: Castleford Tigers v Toulouse Olympique

It was victory for Castleford Tigers against Toulouse Olympique on a warm Saturday night at the OneBore Stadium in the Betfred Super League.

It was an incredibly even first ten minutes, with neither side struggling for completion, but it was the Tigers that took first blood! A penalty had given the side good field position and took advantage, a short ball to Joe Stimson gave the Australian some space, and he offloaded to Tom Weaver to walk in over the line!

Soon, a second came, PLT gave the ball to Cini who sent Louis Senior away down the right, and he was nearly taken into touch - but an offload into the path of PLT gave the full-back a try in the corner! Weaver converted again.

The Tigers went back-to-back through Jason Qareqare, after a great ball from Asi puts Mapapalangi in some space to give it to his left-edge partner to score yet another try this season.

Zac Cini then grabbed another, rising highest to an Asi kick, spinning through to touch down and make it three in quick succession just before the half! Weaver kicked yet again, to complete a perfect first 40 minutes from the tee.

HALF-TIME: Castleford Tigers 24-0 Toulouse Olympique

To ensure the Tigers struck first on the scoreboard after the break, Tom Weaver took the two after a high shot right in front of the sticks, to stretch the lead to five scores.

Daejarn then got his first try of the season after a sustained period of pressure, selling the defence a dummy before forcing his way through to extend the lead even further!

It didn’t take long for Qareqare to find his way back onto the scoresheet, as following a penalty for a late hit on Asi, he sent a bullet pass out to the try-scoring sensation who slid in to grab his second of the night! Finally, however, Weaver’s perfect kicking streak was ended, as this conversion from out wide didn’t quite find the mark.

However, any hope of a clean sheet was extinguished, as a great looping pass from Thomas Lacans found Benjamin Laguerre, and it was a smart finish in the corner, before Jake Shorrocks nailed the conversion from the touchline.

They then grabbed another, as Maxime Stefani got on the end of a grubber kick to score -  and this was also converted by Shorrocks.

A great converted try from César Rougé just before the hooter kept the score respectable for the away side, but the Tigers took home the victory.
