REPORT: Castleford Tigers v Leigh Leopards

A disappointing defeat on Friday night for the Tigers, with a 14-24 defeat to Leigh Leopards.
A poignant night was started with a tribute to the late John Kear, a true great of the game and a Cas lad. Supposed to be here on radio commentary, a touching minute’s silence and heartfelt words from Barry Johnson.
An excellent start to the game followed, as a MAGICAL pass from Krystian Mapapalangi sent Jason Qareqare through for try number four in just two games!
The good start continued, and with a late hit from Ofahengaue on Stimson, Weaver slotted a penalty kick!
The lead could have stretched out further, and Qareqare was through but a penalty was given against Castleford for obstruction, and Jacob Alick-Wiencke scored from the resulting set.
Soon after, again off a penalty, Leigh moved up the field and Innes Senior scored on his return to the OneBore Stadium.
HALF-TIME: Castleford Tigers 8-12 Leigh Leopards
It was a bad start to the second half, and Jack Hughes got on the end of a good play out right, with the kick converted by Cook.
Despite three tries in-a-row for the away side, Daejarn Asi started to test Innes Senior in the air, Cini tapped one back and George Lawler was there to put it down, and mark his 100th Castleford appearance with a try.
Tom Weaver’s conversion brought the game within four points, and it looked like the Tigers might have a chance at the end, but shortly before the end, a knock-on from the Tigers was punished, as Cook managed to get his foot on the loose ball to kick through perfectly into his path and score to win the game.
