REPORT: Castleford Tigers v St Helens

It was delight for the Tigers against St Helens at a boiling OneBore Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with a 30-10 victory!

Right from the start, knock-ons from Saints gave the Tigers good field possession, and soon Jason Qareqare made the most of it, beating three down the left-hand side and diving over to score in the corner.

The mistakes from the away side kept coming, and there was a HUGE opportunity as Qareqare broke down the left, but Mapapalangi would have been in, but he couldn't grab hold of the pass and knock-on was given. However, Cas challenged the call, suggesting that Krystian was tackled off the ball, and Tara Jones agreed.

It was a truly dominant first half, but apart from Semi Valemei losing the ball over the line, the Tigers didn’t look too much like scoring after that for an extended period of time.

With a few minutes of the first to go, there was a late, high, forceful one on Daejarn Asi, and Jack Welsby was sent to the bin - the video referee couldn't determine the point of contact so Saints were only down to 12 for 10 minutes.

This proved to be a crucial 10 minutes, though - as Qareqare found the line again with another acrobatic finish, after a cut-out pass from Mapapalangi!

HALF-TIME: Castleford 10-0 St Helens

The Tigers needed to back the performance up from the first 40, and it didn’t take long - as Brock Greacen raced through the defence, beating a few on his way before extending the lead!

Lewis Murphy took advantage of Saints winning an aerial challenge following a chip-kick to score and put the away side on the board, but they knocked-on from the restart, which was followed by a Jason Qareqare hat-trick try! The knock-on gave the Tigers a scrum on the 10, and PLT raced out towards the number 22 before sending him for try number three of the afternoon!

Saints gave away a number of penalties, with Tom Weaver taking the two twice, and the points kept ticking for Cas.

Then, Saints were penalised for an escort on their own line, and Golding faked to go left from dummy-half, before forcing his own way over the line!

The away side had a try on the hooter through Owen Dagnall, but it wasn’t enough to deny Castleford a famous win in the sun.
