Scholarship Hull KR 34 - 6 Tigers

SCHOLARSHIP. Hull KR 34 – 6 Tigers
Tigers Scholarship side travelled to Hull Kingston Rovers on Wednesday evening for their concluding game of their Youth Season.
The hosts found themselves down to twelve men in the first five minutes, with a red card in the early exchanges. A Tigers error in possession gifted the Rovers attack shortly afterwards and the home side made good yards to capitalise and opened the coring with a converted try.
Another try quickly followed when Castleford defence looked to have kept them in the arm wrestle but a dropped ball from the kick saw Rovers quickly add to their tally with another converted try.
The Tigers stayed in the arm wrestle and good yards from Millen Deravairere and Fletcher Sheldrake laid the platform for their go-forward, and with the Rovers back line expecting the kick; hooker Bobby Sharp jumped out of acting-half to evade the clutches of the tacklers and cross to score on the half hour. Deravairere added the conversion and narrow the lead to six points.
With the half coming to a close, the home side were awarded a penalty and gifted cheap field position, while working the ball left, they broke the back line and added their third try. The conversion was successful, and they led at the break 18-6.
The Rovers attack started the second half strong and made inroads through the middle and swung the pendulum firmly in their favour with an early try under the posts, the conversion improved their lead and minutes later they were quickly back in good-ball to score another converted try.
The Tigers continued to press, Lennon Walsh continuing to ask questions, with Seb Whiteley, Jack Bramley along with Sheldrake all teasing the Rovers backline with kicks through; but unable to capitalise on their attacking promise.
The hosts sealed victory in the final stages with a penalty getting them back up field and scoring with the final play of the game. The conversion was unsuccessful, but they claimed the 34-6 win.
The Tigers scholarship program can take several positives from their final fixture of the season. A large portion of the starting line-up came from their Under-15s squad, and the young players performed impressively, showing great effort and determination.
Their performance indicates that the scholarship group already has a strong foundation to build on, thanks to the valuable experience gained this season, heading into the next campaign with confidence.
