Castleford announce club legends as President and Vice President

Castleford Tigers are proud to announce that club legends Malcolm Reilly OBE and John Joyner will become our President and Vice President respectively.

Mal Reilly made a real impact across both hemispheres in his time in rugby league, and was a Castleford hero both as a player and as a coach, picking up a 1986 Challenge Cup winners' medal with the club.

He featured as a player the last time a UK-based side won the Ashes, and his stellar career was recently rewarded with being part of the name of the Fulton-Reilly Trophy, given to the player who makes the most impact across an Ashes series.

John Joyner was the captain of Reilly's legendary 1986 side, making over 600 appearances for the club before returning as a coach, where he won the 1994 Regal Trophy with a historic 33-2 victory over Wigan.

To mark our Centenary year, the Club has decided to make the role of President a rotating one, with two year tenures. John Joyner will take up the role of President in two years' time.

We would also like to thank Brian Ashworth for his efforts as Club President, as he stands down after ten years.

Castleford Tigers chairman Martin Jepson said: "It was important to have someone of real stature to lead us into our Centenary year, and there seems no better person than one of the most decorated people in our club's history: a true legend, Mal Reilly. 

"Equally, it is fantastic to have another legend in John Joyner as Vice President. The two are both players and people that really represent the core values of the club, and I am delighted that the two both accepted the positions.

"I'd also like to thank Brian [Ashworth], as he steps down from the role."

Everyone at the club is honoured for two true greats of Castleford history to have taken these roles in our Centenary year.
