REPORT: Doncaster RLFC v Castleford Tigers

The Tigers booked a place in Round Four of the Betfred Challenge Cup with a 14-0 win over Doncaster at the Eco-Power Stadium.
Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was impeccably observed by fans of both sides to mark the tragic passing of Katie Boyle, and the thoughts of both clubs are with Ryan Boyle, family and friends.
Some early Tigers pressure wasn’t made the most of, with some handling errors allowing reprieve for the Dons defence - before Cory Aston was brought down just short.
It was a messy start to the game, with both sides making handling errors, but Joe Stimson was able to find space to score just right of the sticks to put the Tigers ahead, with Tom Weaver adding the extras!
Mikaele Ravalawa came closest to adding to the Tigers’ points tally in the first half, after a magical flick pass from Blake Taaffe looked to have him in for a first Challenge Cup try, but he wasn’t quite able to find the line in the right corner.
HALF-TIME: Doncaster RLFC 0-6 Castleford Tigers
The home side could have let a knock-on in the opening second of the second period to set the tone, but they recovered well despite an improved Cas performance after the break.
However, there was plenty of good possession from the Tigers, and Blake Taaffe, after a couple of six-again calls, raced over the line through a rare gap in the home side’s defence to double the lead after Weaver’s conversion.
Weaver then added two more, after the Tigers were given a penalty for a tackle off the ball, as runners chased a kick in behind from Daejarn Asi.
