The End of an Era: Thank You

With Castleford Tigers’ Betfred Super League 2021 season now over, the Club would like to say thank you.

Firstly, to our supporters, we thank you for your fantastic backing as always, from wherever you have cheered the Tigers on. After beginning the season behind closed doors, it was incredibly special to see the Fords faithful back in attendance at matches - especially at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

We look forward to welcoming you all once again to Wheldon Road, and for you all to be a big part of a new chapter in the Tigers’ history in the 2022 campaign.

Following a difficult period due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to say a huge thank you to our club partners and sponsors who make up our commercial family. In a time of great economic difficulty, our sponsors have helped position the Club to be in a good financial position.

To our players, coaching staff, and off-field staff, thank you for your continued hard work around the Club.

At our final home game of the season, everyone in attendance at The Jungle got the opportunity to pay tribute and applaud the efforts of some remarkable servants to our Club.

Alex Foster, Jesse Sene-Lefao, and Peter Mata’utia have given their all to both the club and the local community since becoming Tigers in recent years, and Oliver Holmes will finish his 14-year association with Castleford since coming through the Tigers Academy system. We would like to wish these players well in the next chapters of their careers.

Grant Millington has played for the Tigers for ten seasons, making 245 appearances, and will be heading home to Australia with his family later in the year. Club captain Michael Shenton will also hang up his boots as he calls time on an 18-year professional rugby league career, 16 of which have been in Cas colours, making over 340 appearances. To Grant and Michael, thank you both for your outstanding service and we wish you very happy retirements.

Finally, to Daryl Powell, thank you for an incredible eight years. Since joining in 2013 Daryl has led the Fords to three major finals, coached three players to being named Man of Steel, guided Cas to four play-off place finishes, and secured the Club’s first-ever top place finish and winning the League Leaders’ Shield.

A new era is on the horizon for Castleford Tigers, with plenty of exciting squad, commercial, and club news to be announced in the near future.
