In 2021 Glyn was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach which required both chemotherapy and a five-hour operation to remove a tumour and other cancerous lymph nodes too. Now over a year from his diagnosis and nine months on from his operation, Glyn is doing great!

Glyn wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and our club charity partner The Prince of Wales Hospice. Two outstanding charities who care for people in times of great need.

So, what has Glyn been up to? Well other than preparing for an enormous physical challenge of cycling 1,450km… He has been making people aware of the Tour de Cas alongside his team!

At the start of April, he appeared on Channel 4 programme Steph’s Packed Lunch alongside our beloved mascot JT and with Xscape Yorkshire’s General Manager Jason Warren to raise awareness of the fundraising day on May Bank Holiday Monday. It was a remarkable day for Glyn getting to meet Steph McGovern, Denise Van Outen, comedian Marcus Brigstocke and even Denise Pearson of pop group Five Star fame!

Fast forward to that Bank Holiday Monday and a four-hour cycle-a-thon in the middle of Xscape helped raised plenty more money for the two charities. First Teamers Adam Milner & James Clare lended their support, as did our commercial team of Michael & Craig, and again the best mascot in rugby league JT cheered on the Tour team.

Following the Bank Holiday Monday event, the halfway to target milestone was reached with already £5,000+ being raised by the Tour de Cas and the challenge hasn’t even started!

The Grand Depart is at 10am from The Jungle this Saturday (28th May) and we welcome everyone to come along and cheer the team off, or keen cyclists to join them in the early stages should they so wish.
