Griffin hungry for a top six finish

The Tigers’ prop displayed another fantastic performance in the victory against Wakefield Trinity but the focus for the team remains on clinching top six.

A 16th consecutive win at the Jungle for Castleford but the closing moments left Daryl Powell and his side holding on to tenterhooks as Wakefield piled on the pressure towards the end.

“I felt we was in control in the first half, we came out pretty good and completed our sets and got to good kicks,” Griffin told castlefordtigers.com.

“In the second half, the first few sets we started off on the backfoot and they utilised it and got themselves back into the game. At the end of the day, we did well to hold on towards the end.”

Despite a shaky team ending to the rivals round, Griffin personally has picked up some strong form over the past couple of matches, of which he questioned genially “How bad was I before?!”

“I think I had a few weeks break, got the body right, and did everything right but the team are playing well. It’s a bit easier to play off the back of a team going forward like we do.”

Playoff positions are within sight for the Tigers and Griffin expressed the positivity in the camp.

“We set out that we wanted to make the playoffs and I know some people have written us off, but we’ve got that as a goal to make that top six and it’s still achievable at the minute.

“We’ve just got to knuckle down and win as many games as we can. We know it’s going to be tough, but we have the right mentality at the minute to do it.”

The Fords visit Hull FC on Thursday evening which by the looks of the table could be a battle for playoff places.

“They’ve obviously come off the back of some bad form and got a good win against an in-form KR team. They’ll be fiery up at their place, but it’s a good place to go and play rugby at the MKM stadium, I’ve always enjoyed it.

“They need to win and we need to win so it’ll be toe-to-toe I imagine, but as long as we can stick to what we’ve been doing well, I’m sure we will do okay.”
