The Tigers College of Rugby League Development Academy programme opens a pathway to university through the teaching platforms offered by Virtual Learning UK, whilst allowing for crucial insights into the world of rugby league, and forms an important part of the development tree at Castleford Tigers. One such player to come through this route into the Tigers' academy setup is promising youngster Kyle Cranswick, who signed an contract at the end of 2019. Here, he talks about how the course offered him a route to pursue his goal of being a professional rugby league player, and how it has helped him develop since signing on with the club.

"I started my career at Lock Lane, then moved to Cas Panthers and while I was there at Cas Panthers, the Tigers took me on trial two or three time. I didn’t quite get it, I got turned down a few times but I never thought to give up and obviously I’m still here today, I kept trying!”

Before signing his contract, Kyle was also a participant on Tigers Talent Pathway sessions. These development opportunities focus on technical skills and decision making, as well as movement and mental skills.
“I saw an opportunity to go on the Tigers Talent Pathway, and I kept training with them and it had helped me to get noticed, and that’s why I’ve got a contract.”

As well as the focus on his rugby, the young halfback has felt the course has also benefited his wider development.
“From the course, it’s helped me get a lot more confidence as well as helping me on the field and talking to new people. It’s a really good thing, come down,I think you can really enjoy it, and it helped me get an opportunity down at Cas.”

The Development Academy programme open day will take place at Airedale Academy on 12th February from 3:00-5:00pm. For any further info or to book and confirm your attendance please email pathway leader Danny Evans via danny@castigers.com or on 07545620809.
