Castleford Tigers have revealed details of the new Tigers Talent Pathway for 2019/2020.
The programme has seen hundreds of young players benefit from development opportunities with the Tigers since its launch in 2015 and the club are pleased to confirm the pathway will include sessions for girls as well as boys when it returns in October half-term.
It will now see a route throughout the age groups from under-12s to under-16s available, with the pathway supported by coaches from the local community game who will attend regular coaching workshops to ensure the best possible player development environment.
Offered as part of the RFL’s overarching England Talent Pathway, the boys’ and girls’ programmes at the Tigers will run separately from each other and will be closely aligned with the club’s overall male and female performance pathways, with sessions focusing on technical development and decision making in addition to movement and mental skills development.
A full list of dates for the boys’ and girls' sessions can be found here.
Castleford Tigers’ Education and Pathway Officer Danny Evans said: “The Tigers Talent Pathway is an invaluable part of player development here at the club and one that’s been incredibly successful in recent years.
“We’ve seen several players go on to gain scholarships within our structures and some even representing England at youth level after developing their skills via this programme.
“Lewis Peachey started on this pathway as an under-14s player and went on to play in Super League earlier this year, whilst Maisie Lumb had similar success in the girls’ system, progressing through the ranks to be amongst the Tigresses’ top-five try-scorers and a first team regular this year.
“We’re now looking for the next crop of young players wishing to further their development and the sessions are open access with everybody welcome to attend including athletes from other sports wishing to try rugby league.”
