The 28-year old has joined the rest of the first team squad with a hope of earning a first team contract with the Tigers.

Clarkson has played in Super League since making his debut for Leeds Rhinos in 2010 with the utility forward going on to help the Rhinos win the 2011 Super League Grand Final over St. Helens. During five seasons with the club, Clarkson appeared over 100 times for Leeds before moving on to play for Hull KR via a loan spell at Widnes.

As a Hull KR player, Clarkson played over 70 times in his three years with the club, helping them bounce straight back into Super League in 2017. Clarkson has been searching for a new club since leaving the Robins at the end of the 2018 season.

Clarkson was excited to get the call to join the Tigers: “I was over the moon to get the phone call from Castleford, obviously a club like Cas, have been doing well for so many years now. It will be good for me to fit in with these lads and just train with them for a few weeks and see what I can do, I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a high standard of training, a very high standard. Everybody’s pushing you, you can tell that already from day one that the lads are always working hard for each other and anyone that’s slacking they pick that up and egg you on a little bit so it’s a very good standard.”

The utility forward is excited to be working with Daryl Powell: “From seeing what he’s done over the last five or so years, he’s been magnificent for this club and from speaking to some of the lads he’s a great coach. I’m looking forward to picking some things up off him and really learning. He gets stuck in and does a little bit of training which is good to see. He’s very hands on which is a bit different to what I’ve been to used to over the last few years but it’s very good."

The first chance to see Clarkson in a Tigers shirt will be the pre-season friendly on Sunday 20th January against Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley. Tickets for this game will go on sale from Tuesday 8th January at 12 noon, with ticket prices and coach travel to be confirmed.
