Talking Tigers – Sharing Histories
Posted: Tuesday 17th July 2018 - 10:06 AM
Tigers Trust (the charitable arm of Castleford Tigers RLFC) has launched a new project, Talking Tigers – Sharing Histories.
Talking Tigers - Sharing Histories will work with volunteers, carers and people with or at risk of dementia. A regular group will meet in Castleford Library to come together and share their memories of the Castleford Tigers. The relaxed and safe space of the library will be open to all people of retirement age, or those with dementia and their carers. The project is developing a dementia friendly app linked to the Castleford Tigers Virtual Museum. Volunteers will be trained to use the app and supported in taking the project to care homes and out within the wider community.
Key sites or venues where people meet up throughout Castleford are signing up for the project. These will become Talking Tigers ‘dementia friendly Hot Spots’ where participants can use a QR code to find stories about the heritage of the Club that link to venue where they are. A printed map of all contributing venues will also be produced as a Heritage Trail.
Steve Ball, from the Tigers Trust team, said: “Isolation in older people is a big issue in Castleford and through the generous funding we’ve received we are excited to look at a project that can address some of these issues and make a positive difference in bringing people with a similar interest together.”
Tigers Trust is working with Wakefield based arts organisation One to One Development Trust to deliver this exciting project made possible with funding from a NOVA Live Well Grant and Community Foundation Wakefield District Elderly Person’s Social Isolation Fund.
